Life story

Life story

Amelia was born in St Olaves, London. Her parents were Henry and Anne (nee Sutton) Dancer. Anne appears to have been widowed before Amelia was 17 and she ran a lodging house. Amelia married George James Carter on 13 June 1867 and they lived with Anne Dancer. Amelia assisted her mother in her lodging house business and whenever they moved it was to the same sort of business. George was a carpenter until by 1881, Anne presumably having died, Amelia carried on the business while George was still a carpenter. By 1891, Both Amelia and George ran a lodging house. After George died in 1893, Amelia continued as a lodging house keeper. The 1911 census revealed they had no children. Amelia was buried at Heene on 23 April 1914
