Life story

Life story

Annie Elizabeth Bayliss was the daughter of Charles William Bayliss and was born in Gloucestershire. When she was 30yrs of age, Annie Elizabeth Bayliss, married John Ashdown on 30th March 1893 at St. Aldgate, Gloucester, John Ashdown was born on 9th September 1872 in Sevenoaks, Kent. They lived in Kent and had 3 children, Royston 1894, Doris 1895, and John 1898. John continued to work as a Gardener and Groom and in 1911 he was a Farm Labourer, still living in Sevenoaks, Kent. Their son. John Evans Ashdown, enlisted in the British Army, Sussex Regiment, in 1915, giving his age as 19yrs although he was still 17yrs, naming his mother as next of kin at 16, The Drive, Worthing. In 1916 he was wounded fighting in France. In 1927 Annie died, aged 64yrs, on 16th March in Worthing.

John Ashdown died in Guildford in 1961 aged 89yrs. John Evans Ashdown died in 1973, aged 74yrs, in Worthing.
