Life story

Benjamin Hague Dale was born in Sheffield, Yorkshire, in 1855, he was the son of Benjamin Hague Dale, snr. 32yrs, Bank Manager, and Anne, 34yrs, nee Sheppard. He had 4 siblings, Anne b.1849, Frederick b.1851, Henry b.1852, and George b.1856. Benjamin's mother died in 1856 when he was just a year old; his father remarried twice, and Benjamin had 4 half-siblings.

At 16yrs of age, Benjamin was a commercial clerk, but ten years later he was a general practitioner, living alone in Skipton, Yorkshire. In March 1884 Benjamin married Isabella Darwent, 24yrs, at Devizes, Wiltshire, where he was a medical practitioner, and they lived in Wiltshire for about 20yrs., having 7 children, 5 of whom survived, Amy b.1885, Benjamin b.1887, Harold b.1889, William b.1892, and Dorothy b.1894.

By 1911 Benjamin, Isabella and their son, Harold, 22yrs, a solicitor, had moved to Ashford, Middlesex, where Benjamin continued his medical practice. At some time, Benjamin moved to Worthing, Sussex, living at Craven House, Marine Parade, where he died on 13th January 1930, aged 74yrs. Probate was granted to his sons, Benjamin Dale, medical practitioner, Harold Dale, solicitor, and William Dale, medical practitioner. Effects £9914 7s 7d. Value 2022 - £690,500.
