Life story

Life story

Emma Sarah Morris was born in Calcutta, India, on 28th July 1845; she was the daughter of Frederick John Morris, a judge in the Indian civil service, and Caroline Locke, nee Dobree. She had an older brother, Frederick Bonomy Morris, b.1842. Emma's father died shortly before she was born and her mother returned to England with her 2 young children, in 1851 they were living in Brighton, Sussex.

On 15th October 1891, aged 45yrs, Emma married Charles Thorne Brooks, 43yrs, a mining engineer, at St. Paul's, Addlestone, Surrey. In 1901 they were staying as boarders at a lodging house in South Hayling, Havant, and in 1904 they were living at Culbin, Worthing, Sussex, where Emma died, aged 58yrs, on 26th May 1904.

Probate was granted to Charles Thorne Brooks, Esq., effects £5072. Value 2022 - £657K.
