Life story

Life story

Emma was born in Bermondsey, the daughter of Thomas Charles Durrant and his wife Eliza. Her father was a silversmith and jeweller. Emma trained as a milliner. In 1875, she married George Robert Oldham Williams in Islington. The couple had two children, Cecile and Stephen. George worked for the New River Company as a collector of water rates. After George retired, the family moved to Shoreham and then in 1917, to Worthing. They lived at "Ingleside" in Heene Road. George died in a nursing home in 1920. Emma moved to 5 York Road, Worthing with her daughter. She died on 27th November 1922 and was buried alongside George. Probate was granted on 8th December 1922 to Cecile Emily Williams spinster. Effects £261 0s 9d.
