Life story

Life story

Frances Maria Pritchard was born in North End, Portsea, Hampshire, she was baptised there on 12th February 1819. She was the daughter of John White Pritchard, 31yrs, Captain, Royal Navy, and Frances Maria Appleby, 21yrs, and was 1 of 13 children.

Frances married, aged 26yrs, on 16th June 1845 at St. Mary's, Portsea, Hampshire. Her husband was Joseph Swan Waddy, of Wexford County, Ireland, a practising solicitor; she moved to Ireland where 6 children were born, Cadwallader b.1846, Frances Maria b.1847, Joseph Swan b.1849, John Edmond b.1850, Ann Margaret b.1856, and Richard William b.1858.

Frances was widowed in 1870 when Joseph died, aged 82yrs, and she returned to England, settling in Worthing, Sussex, at 5, Southview Terrace, Rowlands Road, with her sister, Zillah.

Frances died on 23rd July 1891, aged 72yrs, probate was granted to John Henry Appleby, Esquire, of Fareham, Southampton, effects, £451. Value 2023 - £73,300.
