Life story

Harriet Jenkinson was born in 1841 in Kingsland, Hackney, her parents were Thomas North Jenkinson, 22yrs, Butcher, and Harriet, 19yrs, nee Hunt. She had 4 siblings, Fanny b.1846, Alfred b.1849, George b.1848, and Charles b.1853.

On 9th September 1865, Harriet, aged 22yrs, married William Hunt, 25yrs, Miller, at St. John, Hackney; they began their married life in Edmonton, Middlesex, where William employed 40 men in the milling trade, and they had 2 daughters, Jessie, b.1869, and Elizabeth b. 1871. The family then moved to Essex where they remained until William retired, and in 1901 they were in Worthing, Sussex, with their unmarried daughters, living at Eyncourt, Shelley Road.

Harriet was widowed in 1907 when William died, aged 68yrs, she remained in Worthing with her daughters; in 1911 they were living in Tennyson Road. She died on 14th August 1932, aged 91yrs, at 28, Winchester Road. Probate was granted to Jessie and Elizabeth Hunt, spinsters, effects £413 4s 5d. Value 2021 - £29K.
