Life story

Life story

Harriett Barnes was born in Horningsham, Wiltshire, she was baptised on 23rd February 1845. Her parents were Mark Barnes, 40yrs, and Ann, 37yrs, nee Chapman. Her father was an agricultural labourer, she was the second youngest of 8 children.

In 1868, Harriett, 23yrs, married Charles Trollope, 23yrs, on 29th September, at Horningham, their families were neighbours. Charles and Harriett moved to Patcham, Sussex, where they lived for thirty years, they had 3 children, Anne b.1870, Edward b.1876, and Eliza Kate b.1880. Charles was a coachman at Withdean Grange, and his brother, Oliver, a gardener, lived with them.

After retiring, Charles and Harriett moved to Worthing, with unmarried daughter, Eliza Kate, living in St. Botolph's Road. Harriet died on 21st November 1916, aged 71yrs.
