Life story

Life story

John was born in East Preston, the son of Richard and Maria. He was baptised at East Preston on 15th August 1886. His father was a farmer. On 26th December 1842, John married Sarah Henson at West Tarring church. They had four children, Ann, Frederick, John and Susan. Sarah died at the end of 1859. John moved his family back to East Preston and on 25th December 1867, he married Harriet Poland at East Preston church. By 1881, the family were living in Worthing where John worked as a hire carter. John died in June 1886 and was buried at Heene on 9th June. No probate.

Harriet went to live with her nephew Albert Poland in Gratwicke Road. She died in 1903.
