Life story

Life story

John Russell was born in Sunderland, County Durham, in 1831. He studied medicine and became a Surgeon/GP.

John married in 1863, he was 32yrs, his wife was Emily Henderson, 21yrs, also born in Durham. They lived in London, at 72, Warwick Square, where their first child, John Charles was born in 1864. By 1871 they had moved back North and had 3 more children, Una b.1866, William b.1865, and Gilbert b.1868. (Died 1871). A daughter, Vera Naomi, was born in 1873.

After retiring, John and Emily moved to Worthing with their daughter, Vera, 18yrs, living, in 1891, at 'Waldridge', Belsize Road. Emily died, aged 50yrs, on 17th September 1892, and ten days later, John also died, aged 62yrs, on 27th September 1892. Administration was granted to William Russell, Merchant, effects, £2839 9s 10d. Value 2021 - £370K.
