Kate Southgate was born in 1865 in Lee, Kent to Samuel Tufnell and Ellen Southgate. Kate was one of seven children born to Samuel and Ellen, Samuel worked as a Solicitor. In 1871 they were living at The Elms' Lee in Kent. By 1881 the family had moved to The Hollies' Eliot Hill, Lewisham, London. In 1891 the family had moved again to 127 Church Road, Croydon, Samuel was still working as a Solicitor.
Kate married Charles Bertram Wickham on the 17th October 1895 at St. John Evangelist Church, Upper Norwood, London. They had their first child Arthur Tuffnell Wickham on 6th April 1897 in Worthing, but he only lived a year and died on 9th April 1898. In 1901 Charles and Kate and their Daughter Marjory Maude Lucy Frances (born 1899 in Worthing) were visiting Ellen M Southgate, Kate's Sister, in Hastings, Sussex. Charles is working as a School Tutor. By 1911 they were living at Cranfield House, Downview Road, Worthing. They were staying at Queen Street in Arundel in 1921 and Charles was now working as a Club secretary for the West Worthing Club.

Charles died on the 7th November 1930, he was living at St. Cross, 17 Valencia Road in Worthing.
After her Husband's death, Kate continued to live in Valencia Road, where she died on the 26th October 1940. She left £119 4s 8d (£4682 in 2020) with probate to Marjory Lucy Fiennes Wickham (Daughter) and William Archibald Boyes and Walter Wright solicitors.
