Mary Ellen Silversides (nee Hole) was born in 1853 in Morton Derbyshire to Hugh and Mary Hole. Mary's Father Hugh was a farmer of 112 acres in Morton Derbyshire.

On 16th June 1874, Mary married John Brown. He was also living in Morton with his family and was working for the Clay Cross company as a Deputy with his Father and Brother. The company established coal mines, ironworks, brickworks and pipe factories, and produced coal, iron ore and limestone.
Mary and John had one son called John Hugh Brown, born 1876 in Belper Derbyshire. John Brown died in September 1876 in Morton aged just 24.
Mary Ellen then married Charles William Silversides on 27th December 1879 at the Parish Church, Camberwell, Surrey. Charles worked as an accountant.

In 1891 the family are living at Sunny Gardens, Hendon, Middlesex. Charles is working as an accountant. By 1901 the family are living at Sunningfield Crescent, Hendon. Middlesex. Charles's Mother Phoebe is also living with the family. In 1911 the family are still living at Sunningfield Crescent Hendon Middlesex and Charles is an incorporated accountant working for himself. In 1922, Mary and Charles have moved to Worthing where Charles became a Churchwarden and sidesman of Heene Church in 1924.
Charles died on the 14th December 1931, while living at Herries' 21 Belsize Road, West Worthing.
Mary Ellen died on 15th May 1935 while living at 21 Belsize Road, Worthing Sussex. She left £638 19s 2d (£32,000 in 2020) to Charles Oswald Guy Silversides (Son), Ethel Constance Silverside (Daughter) and Lilian Mary Silversides (Daughter).
