His father, Samuel Ford Ashdown, was a Master Draper, owning a large drapery store at 30-32 Montague Street, Worthing. In 1911 Ronald, aged 5 years, was living with his father, Ronald, 45yrs, and his mother, Emily Jane nee Cousins, 40 yrs. He had two older sisters, Gertrude Nellie 18 yrs. who was a student teacher and Marjorie Gwendoline 15 yrs., the family employed two domestic servants. They lived at The Firs, St. Michaels's Rd. Worthing. Ronald Ford Ashdown died on 25th August 1912 in Margate, Kent, 3 days before his 6th birthday, at 10, Northdown Avenue.
