Life story

Sarah Louisa Cotton was born in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, in 1862; her parents were William Cotton, Auctioneer, and Annie 22yrs, nee Brewster. Sarah had one older sister, Edith Annie, b.1861, and 4 brothers, Ernest, b.1864, Robert, b.1865, Harry Douglas, b.1867, and Walter, b. 1870.

On 7th June 1893, aged 31yrs, Sarah married Alfred Dearman Stevenson, 27yrs, Mining Engineer, in Tenby, Pembrokeshire, but she was widowed in 1909 when Alfred died, aged 43yrs; they had no children. Shortly afterwards Sarah moved to Westbourne House, Heene Road, Worthing, Sussex, with her widowed mother.

On 18th July 1914, Sarah, 52yrs, married Norman Taylor, 32yrs, Dental Surgeon, at St. Peter the Less, Chichester, Sussex. At the outbreak of war, Norman enlisted as an Army Dental Surgeon, and by 1921 they were living at Colebrook, 134, Heene Road, Worthing, Sussex.

Sarah died in Worthing, aged 69yrs, on 25th July 1931, probate was granted to her husband, Norman Taylor, effects, £3316 13s. Value 2023 - £289000.
