Life story

Arthur Garner was born on 27th December 1857 at St George's Hanover Square London, to Peter and Sarah Garner (nee Fisher). He went to school at St. Michael's school, Westminster.

In 1871 he is living with his parents at 235 Vauxhall Bridge Road St George's Hanover Square, London. Arthur's Parents Peter and Sarah worked as Domestic Servants.

In 1881 Arthur and his family have moved to 21 Gaskell Street Clapham, London. Arthur is working as a Telegraph Clerk with the civil Service Telegraph Stores branch.

By 1891 they were living at 7 Camden Park Road, St Pancras, London.

Then by 1911 all the children had left home and Arthur and Frances were living at 23 Cecile Park, Crouch End, London. He was then in charge of the Fordrough Lane, Bordesley Green depot since it was opened in 1909 and had worked for the post office for 46 years. He was awarded the MBE in 1918 after moving to DArcy, Cowper Road, Worthing Sussex.

Arthur died on 22nd august 1921 in Worthing and left an amount of £3374 42 4d

Frances died on 5 November 1933 while living at Ilford in Essex. She left an amount of £3799 7s 8d to Constance Annie Goord and Ernest Frank Garner.

Worthing Gazette 19th June 1918

Among those appointed by the King as Members of the Order of the British Empire is Mr Arthur Garner, Staff Officer at the Stores Department at the General Post Office at Birmingham. This intimation is of local interest, insomuch as Mr Garner, having decided to settle in Worthing, has purchased D'Arcy, Cowper Road, and is now taking up his residence there. Mr Garner has been Staff Officer in charge of the Post Office Stores Depot in Fordrough Lane, Bordesley Green, since it was opened in 1909, and has been in the service of the Post Office for the long period of forty six years.

Re Arthur Garner (deceased) Pursuant to the Statute 22 and 23 Vict. CAp. 35 Notice is hereby given that all creditors and other persons having any debts, claims, or demands against the estate of Arthur Garner, late of D'Arcy, Cowper Road, Worthing in the County of Sussex, but formerly of Thirlmere, The Crescent, Solihull, in the County of Warwick, gentleman, who died on the 22nd day of August, 1921, and whose Will was proved in the Principal Probate Registry of His Majesty's High Court of Justice on the 24th day of November, 1931, by the Public Trustee, the sole Executor therein named, are hereby required to send particulars, in writing, of their claims or demands to me the undersigned, as solicitor for the said Executor, and or before the 25th day of March 1923, after which date the said Executor will proceed to distribute the assets of the said deceased amongst the persons entitled thereto, having regard only to the debts, claims and demands of which he shall then have had notice; and that he will not be liable for the assets or any part thereof, as distributed, t any person or persons of whose debt, claim or demand he shall not then have had notice.
