Bertha Kate Seymour Sandy (nee Beckley) was born on 11th August 1877 in East Molsey Surrey, to Ernest and Mary Kate Beckley. Bertha's Father Ernest worked as a Publisher's clerk.
On the 8th October 1895 Bertha married Clements William Shaw. Clements was born in Calcutta, India, and after they were married they went back to India where their Daughter Kathleen Elise Shaw was born on 28th January 1897 in Bengal, India. Clements and Bertha didn't spend many years there, as the next time we hear about them is on 3rd October 1899, Clements had put an announcement in the Daily Telegraph newspaper to say that
I, Clements William Shaw hereby give notice that I will NOT be responsible for any debts contracted by my WIFE, Bertha Kate Seymour Shaw, living at 16 Windmill Road, W Croydon.

So it would appear that the marriage was on the rocks due to Bertha Kate's spending, and also the couple are living at different addresses. In 1901 Bertha and her Daughter Kathleen were staying with her parents at 15 The Crescent, Croydon, and in 1911 Bertha and Kathleen are living at 16 Royal Mansions, Royal Parade, West Croydon, Surrey. Bertha is still shown to be married but her husband is not living with them.
Clements William Shaw died on 23rd February 1939 and left £3538 18 3d with probate to George Frederick Carr and Harold Arthur Shaw.
Bertha married Lewis Sandy on the 12th April 1939 at St. Botolph's Church, Heene, Worthing. The couple lived at Heene Terrace, Worthing. Bertha's Daughter, Kathleen Elise married William Roy Hill on the 5th July 1917 and they lived in Arundel, Sussex.
Lewis Sandy became a prominent official and Churchwarden at Heene Parish Church. When he gave the position up due to increasing age he continued as a sidesman, and member of the Heene Church rooms committee. He was also secretary and treasurer of the rector's stipend fund and the assistant clergy fund.
Lewis and Bertha and Lewis's Sister Mabel Louise were living at 2 Ardale Close Worthing when Lewis died on the 30th June 1955.
He left an amount of £8250 18s 9d (£196889 in 2020) to his wife Bertha. After her Husband's death Bertha moved to her Daughter's house in 94 Wepham Arundel. She died on 9th march 1966. She left £5495 to Kathleen Elise Hill (Daughter) and Anthony Eric Hill (Grandson)
