Life story

Life story

Charles was born in Leicester, the son of George and Mary. He was baptised at St John the Divine church, Leicester on 2nd May 1858. His father was involved in the wool manufacturing business but later became an insurance agent. As a young man, Charles began working for the National Provincial Bank in Leicester. On 7th September 1891, he married Mary Jane Willcocks at Holy Trinity church, Leicester. The couple had two sons, George and Charles. The family were still living in Leicester in 1916 but by 1923, they had moved to Worthing. Charles and Mary lived at "Knighton" which at the time was in Boundary Road, west of Grand Avenue. When Pevensey Road was developed in 1927, "Knighton's" address was changed. Charles died on 14th November 1927. Probate was granted on 10th January 1928 to Mary Jane Bankart widow and George Harold Bankart paymaster RN. Effects £10971 4s 2d. Mary left Worthing before 1933 and died in London in 1947.
