Life story

Life story

Fanny was born in Portslade, the daughter of Henry John and Lucy. Her father was a brickmaker. The family moved to Worthing in the 1890's. On 25th December 1900, Fanny was a witness at her sister Harriet's wedding at Heene church. Fanny married Thomas Henry Allen at Heene on 8th September 1901. Thomas was a brickyard labourer, also from Portslade. The couple set up home at 4 Elm Grove, close to the brickyards. Fanny died on 21st December 1901 of pneumonia and exhaustion. She died shortly after giving birth to her son Albert Thomas. He only survived her by two years, dying in March 1903. He is also buried at Heene. Thomas married again in 1904 and moved back to Portslade.
