Joan Marie Sams was born in April 1913 in Worthing, Sussex, the daughter of Edith Holness and William John, a dairyman and fruit grower. She died on the 6th September, 1916 at 'Moro', St. Michael's Road and was buried in Heene Cemetery, where her paternal grandparents, are also buried.
