Life story

Alice Maria Stevens (also spelt Stephens) was born in 1848 (baptised 13th February 1848) in Lympsham, Somerset to Peter and Susanna Stevens.

Alice's Father Peter was a Farmer of 220 acres at Hobbs Boat Lane Lympsham, Somerset. 

Alice was living at home until sometime between 1871 and 1883, when she went to Albermarle, Virginia, USA and married William Hilbers a Farmer, on the 5th June 1883.  There are no records of any children being born. After they were married William and Alice arrived back in Liverpool in December 1891. Then in April 1892 they went back to New York.  In 1901 they were finally back in England and were living at No. 2 Stratford Villa Leicester Road, Nuneaton, Warwickshire. William Hilbers was a Scripture Reader with the Church of England. In 1911 they were living at Kaiapoi, Heene Road Worthing. William is living on private means. 

On 18th July 1923 Alice died while living in Worthing and was buried in Heene cemetery. William moved to 18 Montpelier Road in Brighton, where he died on the 28th October 1939, and was also buried in Heene Cemetery with his Wife.
