Life story

Life story

Emma Ashfold was born in Soho, Middlesex, in 1857; her parents were William Ashfold, 24yrs, a master bricklayer, employing 9 men, and Ann, 25yrs, nee Lewis. She was 1 of 7 children.

On 12th December 1879, aged 23yrs, Emma married William Henry Holland, 31yrs, at St. Andrew's, Kensington. William was a grocer, they lived in Brompton, Kensington, and in 1880 their son, William Henry, was born, he was baptised at St. Jude, Kensington, on 7th February 1886, aged 5yrs, he was their only child.

At some point, William changed career from grocer to stationer and in 1901 they were living in Earl's Court. Emma and 2 of her sisters assisted William in his stationery business. After retirement, William and Emma moved to Worthing, Sussex, where they lived at Penlee, 27, Harrow Road.

Emma died on 24th June 1927, aged 70yrs, probate was granted to her husband, effects, £423 3s 3d. Value 2022 - £29,500.
