Life story

Katharine Matilda Mitchell was born in Sussex, she was baptised at Bosham, Sussex, on 27th September 1846, she was the oldest of eleven children born to the Reverend Henry Mitchell, 27yrs, Vicar of Bosham, and Charlotte, 21yrs, nee Gibbs.

When Katharine was 34yrs old, she was living in Margate, Kent, and running a convalescent home, ten years later she was a companion, living in Reigate, Surrey. Katharine was 22yrs older than her youngest sister, Ella, and together with their sister, Marion, the three women, all single, moved to Worthing where they lived at Cissbury, Harrow Road; Marion died in 1933, aged 81yrs, and Katharine died on 15th February 1936, aged 89yrs. Probate was granted to Lloyds Bank Ltd. effects £4555 5s 1d. Value 2021 - £330K.
