Life story

Minnie was born in Sompting, the daughter of James and Ellen. She was baptised in the village on 10 Dec 1865. James was a gardener. By the age of 15, Minnie was a domestic servant working in Hove. In 1885, she gave birth to a son Albert at The Lodge, Rectory House, Sompting. He was baptised on 8 Feb but died the following year in Nov 1886. The church register noted that she was a single woman. Minnie went back to work in Brighton and by 1901 she was the cook at the Police Home in Hove. By 1911, Minnie's parents were running Seaview Nurseries in Boundary Road, Worthing.
