Life story

William Hope was born in 1869 in St. George in the East, Middlesex; he was the son of George Hope, 43yrs, a railway plate layer, and Ann, 41yrs, nee Gowler, he was an only child

William began a clerical career as a solicitor's clerk in 1891, he was a railway engineer's clerk in 1901, and a municipal clerk in 1911.

On 27th December 1917, when he was 48yrs old, William married Frances Essex Theodora Smith, 37yrs, at St. Andrew, West Kensington. They do not appear to have had any children.

In 1921 William and Frances were living in Muswell Hill, Middlesex, at some point they moved to Worthing, Sussex, where they lived at Mornington, West Avenue, where William died, on 10th July 1929, aged 59yrs. Probate was granted to his widow, effects, £6298 17s 7d. Value 2022 - £426,300.
