Life story

Anne Charlotte Smith was born on 4th April 1843 in Newington, Surrey, she was baptised on 21st July 1843 at Old Church, St. Pancras. Anne was the daughter of Richard John Smith, 32yrs, Cheesemonger, and Emma, 25yrs, nee Evans. She had 2 younger siblings, Susan b.1846, and Charles b.1850.

In 1861 Anne's father had become a Sheriff's Officer and the family were living in Gravesend, Kent.

On 20th November 1862, aged 19yrs, Anne married Charles George Firman, 28yrs, a surgeon/ general practitioner, in Gravesend. They had 2 daughters, Annie Florence b.1864, and Amy Francis b. 1866. Anne was widowed in 1889, and she married again in 1894, Edward Dillon, in Camberwell. She was widowed a second time when Edward died in 1897 in Gravesend.

Anne was still in Kent in 1901, but at some point, she moved to Worthing, Sussex, where she lived at 113, Marine Parade, in 1921.

On 23rd May 1931, Anne died, aged 88yrs, probate was granted to her daughters, Annie Florence OMahoney, widow, and Amy Francis Edwards, effects, £2325 16s 10d. Value 2022 - £168,700.
