Lieutenant Colonel Robert Stephen Porter was decorated for his service in the Volunteer Force and given the honour of the post of Deputy Lieutenant of Liverpool.
When Robert Stephen Porter was born on 26 December 1848 in Kingsland, Middlesex, his merchant father, Robert, was 36 and his mother, Mary Jane Young, was 27.
Robert had a St. Pancras based, beer bottling business.
The beer was stored in the station undercroft.
In 1880, Robert married Evelyn Maund in Sandown, The Isle of Wight and they had two daughters, Agnes and Evelyn.
Evelyn died in 1888 and Robert married Ellen Wentworth Bennett in 1891 in Liverpool. They lived in Grove Park, Liverpool until Ellen died in 1915.
He then married Edith Henritta Kenny Graham in July 1917 in Eastbourne, Sussex. He died on 24 May 1931 in Worthing, Sussex, at the age of 82.
