Life story

Life story

Annie was born in Gateshead, Co. Durham, the daughter of Thomas and Ann. She was baptised in Gateshead on 2nd July 1832. Her father was a glue manufacturer. Thomas died on 7th November 1855. On 22nd June 1861, Annie married Henry Potts Wight, a master mariner, at St John's Church, Gateshead. The couple set up home in Islington in London. As Henry was away at sea for long periods, Annie's sister Margaret moved in to help with the children, George, Annie, Jessie and Norman. By 1881, Annie and Henry had added two more children to their family, Thomas and Margaret. After Henry retired, he worked as a clerk for the local County Council. By 1901, the family were living in Putney. Annie's sister Margaret still lived with them and moved to Worthing with them around 1905, the time of Henry's death. The family lived at Ravenscroft Cottage in Heene Road. Henry died on 2nd March 1905 and was buried at Heene. Annie died on 21st December 1907. No probate.

Margaret Wardman, Annie's sister died in 1917 and is buried at Heene with Katherine, the daughter of Henry and Annie's son George.
