Life story

Catherine Armstrong was born in Bolsover, Derbyshire, in 1841.  Her parents were, William Armstrong, 40yrs, Farmer, and Sarah, 31yrs, nee Adams Pasteure. Catherine had an older sister, Rosetta, born 1838.

On 22nd January 1862 Catherine, 21yrs, married a farmer, John Bailey Massey, 41yrs, at the Parish Church, Islington. They lived in Essex and had 4 children, Mary Ann, b.1863, Joseph Bostock, b.1865, John William, b.1866, and Catherine, b.1869.

Catherine was widowed in 1893, and in 1901 she was living in Worthing, at Ingleby, Richmond Road, with 3 of her adult children, Mary Ann, 38yrs, Joseph, 36yrs, and Katherine, 32yrs. On 30th January 1905, Catherine died, aged 64yrs, probate was granted to Joseph Bostock Massey, and John Lewis Pasteur Armstrong, Gentlemen. Effects £13183 5s 4d. Value 2021 - £1.6m.
