"Give us grace so to follow their good example that with them we may be partakers of the heavenly kingdom" 26th June 1939 also of dear Garton. Henrietta Eliza Johnson sister of Emilie C M. Life story

Life story

Charles was born in Croydon, Surrey, the son of Rev. George Broadley Howard and his wife Emilie Cecilia Martha. He was baptised at St Andrew's Church, Croydon on 21st June 1863. His family had recently returned from India as his father had been appointed curate of Baltonsborough in Somerset. By 1868, the family were in Kent and continued to live in the county until George retired. Charles worked as a banker until he retired in 1913. By then the family were living at 18 Queen's Road, Worthing. George died in 1913 and Emilie in 1918. After retiring, Charles ran a typewriting business from home. By 1925, Charles was living with his aunts Henrietta and Alice Johnson (sisters of Emilie) at 64 Heene Road. After Alice's death in 1930, Charles moved to 14 Valencia Road, Worthing. He died on 25th June 1939. Probate was granted on 24th July to Amy Mary Parish wife of Hawtayne Macrae Parish and Winifred Ethel Stickland wife of Ernest Edgar Stickland. Effects £1387 11s 8d.
