Life story

Mary Hinds was born in 1856 in Cranbrook, Kent, she was baptised on 4th August 1856; she was the daughter of George Hinds, 34yrs, a solicitor, and Sarah, 28yrs, nee Parker. She was 1 of 11 children, 5 boys and 6 girls. Her widowed father died in 1896 leaving estate of £2.9m. (2022 value), allowing Mary and her sisters to live comfortably on private means.

Mary remained with her siblings, living in their family home in Goudhurst, Kent, into her old age, at some point the sisters moved to Worthing, living at Edenhurst, Belsize Road. She died, aged 83yrs, at Amatola Nursing Home, Shakespeare Road, Worthing, Sussex, on 13th July 1939. Probate was granted to Jessie Maria Hinds, spinster, and George Vernon Hinds, solicitor, effects £5022 2s 3d. Value 2022 - £350K.
