Life story

Charlotte Walter was born in Bideford, Devon, in 1840. She was the daughter of the Reverend Frederick M. Walter,39yrs, and Ann, 34yrs, nee Keene; she was 1 of 6 children.

Charlotte's father was the Vicar of St. Petrox, Dartmouth, the permanent incumbent, serving there for over 30yrs, she continued to live with him after the death of her mother, until in 1874, aged 34yrs, she married Rev. Roger John Wright, 25yrs in Totnes, Devon. They had no children.

Roger served in parishes in Yorkshire, Norfolk and in Ireland before moving to Worthing. In 1891, Roger and Charlotte were living in Madeira Avenue, Worthing, Sussex. Roger was licensed as a Preacher for the Chichester diocese in 1892. By 1911 they had moved to Shakespeare Road and before his death in 1924 they were living at 19, Thorn Road. Charlotte remained at that address until her death on 4th March 1926, at 64, Richmond Road, aged 86yrs.

Probate was granted to Charles Dakin Shellabear, solicitor, effects £165 1s. 0d. Value 2021 - £10500.
