Life story

Life story

Mary Truefitt (nee Haywood) was born in 1824 at Holt in Worcestershire. Her mother was also called Mary and her father was James Haywood, a bricklayer. In the 1851 England Census the family were living at 26, Broad Street, Worcester. Mary married George a successful architect, on 23 September 1852 and by 1861 they were living at 1, Middleton Road Islington, London, with 3 children and 2 servants. In 1871 they had moved to Bartholomew Road, Fernbank, Islington. The 2881 Census could not be found but at some point they had moved to Sussex and in 1891 they were at Shelsley Lodge, Broadwater. Interestingly, their married daughter, Mary Louisa Warleigh,  was with them and under occupation is listed as wife of Lieut George A Warleigh which has been crossed out, suggesting a divorce. George Warleigh did not die until 1909. Mary Truefitt died on 16 September 1896. No probate announcement was found. Exactly 3 months later George Truefitt remarried. He was 72 and his new wife was 26.
