Life story

Life story

Ellen's father Joseph Gould was a wine cooper who married her mother Rebecca Elizabeth Morgan in October 1853. Ellen was born in Camberwell. She married Thomas Grinyer, a clerk, on 6th September 1879 at Bow Common, Middlesex. Their son Clarence was born in Limehouse. Ellen was widowed in 1886 and in 1891 was living in Croydon, employed as a dressmaker. Living with her was her mother Rebecca, her sister Gertrude, both dressmakers and her son. In 1901 they were all still living in Croydon but by 1911, Ellen and Gertrude had moved to Worthing, living at "Piermont" in Tarring Road. Ellen died in 1916 leaving an estate of £458. She left the house to Gertrude. Her son Clarence is also buried at Heene.
