Ethel was born in Worthing, the daughter of Edward and Delia. Her father was a market gardener. She was baptised at Heene on 6 May 1877. Ethel's family lived at 13 Heene Lane in 1871. By 1881, they had moved to 56 Ellen Street, Hove. Ethel died c5 Feb 1878 and was buried at Heene on 7 Feb.
