Life story

Frances Penelope Dipple Humphreys was born in 1827 in Clerkenwell to William Corne Humphreys, 35yrs, Solicitor, and Jane Frances, 35yrs, nee Dunne, they lived at Goswell Terrace, Islington. She had 2 older sisters, Caroline, 5yrs, Ellen, 2yrs, and a brother, Charles Octavius, was born in 1828.

On 23rd May 1857, Frances Penelope married Christian William McNiell at Erith, Kent, they were both 30yrs of age, their daughter Ellen Augusta was born in 1859. Christian was an Army Captain in 1861 and they lived in Greenwich. A son, Hardinge C. McNeill, was born in 1864 in Kent, and a second daughter, Frances Maria Christine, was born in Southsea in 1868. The family returned to Woolwich where they remained until Christian retired and they then moved to Worthing, living at Gracemere, Richmond Road, Heene.

Frances Penelope McNiell died on 4th December 1904, aged 77yrs, in Worthing. Probate was granted to her husband, effects £4633 15s 3d, value 2020 - £567K.
