Life story

Mary, whose maiden name was Sewell, was the daughter of John, a builder, and Mary nee Lowther. She was born in Hatton Garden, Middlesex. She married Augustus Gale, a warehouse clerk, on 22nd May 1856 at St Botolph's Church, Aldersgate, London. They had four children but sadly their youngest child died before his fourth birthday. Mary was widowed in 1886 and left comfortably off. By 1911, Mary was living with her daughter in Winchester Road, Worthing. She died on 25th January 1919. Probate was granted on 13th March to Arthur John Gale, gentleman, Frederick Kilvington solicitor and Alice Mary Gale spinster. Effects £1150 9s 11d.
