She was baptised at Anston cum Membris on 16th December 1856. Joseph's job involved acting as an overseer at the colliery and organising the workforce. He was the man charged with loading or unloading the cage. As a young woman, Sarah moved south and worked as a nurse for various families. It was difficult to trace her until 1891 when she was living and working in Exton, Rutland. By 1911, Sarah had moved to Surrey working for a mineral water manufacturer. As her sister Frances was married and living in Eastbourne at this time, Sarah also moved to the South Coast. She was living at 9 Ripley Road, Worthing by 1914. Sarah died at Kingston Hall Nursing Home in Shakespeare Road, Worthing on 28th December 1918. Probate was granted to her sister Frances Grace Buston (wife of Sam Buston) on 12th July 1919.
