Life story

Life story

Sarah was born in Littlehampton, the daughter of Charles and Sarah. Her father was a sailor who later worked as a coastguard and Revenue Man. Sarah was baptised at St Mary's Church, Littrlehampton on 3rd June 1822. By 1841, her father had moved the family away from the area but Sarah stayed in Sussex, finding work as a servant at the farm of James Feest in Worthing. It was here that she met James's brother David. The couple married at Broadwater Church on 18th November 1855. David is described as a brewer's labourer, later working as a brewer at the Cannon Brewery. David and Sarah had a daughter Beatrice who was born in 1867. Sarah died on 29th April 1882. No probate. Beatrice married in 1892 and moved to Lancing. David died in 1909 and is buried at Broadwater. In his will, he left £700 to Beatrice.
