Life story

Charles Beaumont was born on 19th May 1854 and lived at 12, Clifton Street, Brighton, with father, Daniel Hollyman Beaumont, 40yrs. a Clerk/Coal Merchant, mother, Elizabeth, 38yrs. nee Shrubb. He had 3 older siblings, Elizabeth, 13 yrs., Henry, 12yrs, and Mary, 9yrs. 

Charles became a coal merchant, in 1881 he was living over the shop at 49, High Street, Worthing. Charles married his first cousin, Anne Eliza Beaumont in Croydon in 1885 and they had 4 children, Charles, 1885, Ethel, 1886, Edith, 1888, and Leonard, 1889. 

He continued to run his business as Coal Merchant in the High Street for many years, retiring at the age of 56 yrs. he was also well known as a Worthing Rotarian. His sons, Charles and Leonard took over the business and ran it as a partnership until Leonard went abroad. 

Charles, Senior, died on 7th November 1924 aged 70 yrs. at Kaysville, Christchurch Road, Worthing. Probate was granted to his widow, Ann Eliza, Leonard Beaumont, Insurance Agent and Ethel Beaumont, spinster.    Effects £4596. 1s 9d Value 2019 - £277k.
