Life story

Life story

Jane Finch (nee Belcham) was born in 1855 Rayleigh Essex to John and Jane Belcham.  Jane's Father John worked as a Draper and Auctioneer and lived at  In Street, Rayleigh, Essex.

On 17 August 1876 Jane married George Henry Finch in Rayleigh Essex, there are no records of any children being born.     At the time of the 1881 Census Jane and George Henry were living with her parents in her home town of Rayleigh in Essex. George Henry was a solicitor and, according to an 1875 Directory, he worked at Bridge Chambers, Borough High Street, SE and at 2, Gipsy Hill, Upper Norwood.

In 1911 Jane and George Henry have moved to Worthing and are boarding at the Burlington Hotel, Worthing, Sussex.

At the time of George Henry's death on 5th November 1922, at the age of 76, he and Jane were living at Kelvedon, in Lansdowne Road, Worthing. He was very wealthy, leaving well over £20,000 (£500,000 in 2020)

After George henry's death in 1922 Jane moved to Winterbourne, Gloucestershire, where she died on 30th October 1924. She left an amount of £301 15s 2d with administration to John Richmond Baxter.
