Rachel was the second child of three born to Walter John Hatcher of Shoreham and Elizabeth Pratt of South Wales. Rachel had two brothers Walter Douglas 1905 and George Pratt 1909 Rachels father Walter John Hatcher was the Son of a Trinity Pilot of Shoreham Harbour. This was an important role in the harbour as the Trinity pilots' job was to guide all commercial ships into the harbour safely and they must spend many years to qualify for this important job. Walter once married moved to Worthing with his family of two boys and Rachel who died at birth. Rachels father worked as a laundry manager in Elm Grove, Worthing and Lived at "Eastcot" Ripley Road Worthing which is in the next road. 1939 her father is still living at Ripley Road and he dies in 1961 in Worthing. Rachel brother Walter Douglas marries and moves to Northamptonshire and works for the BBC as a maintenance engineer and dies in 1985 in Somerset England aged 80 Rachels brother George Pratt moves to New Zealand and works on a farm. He marries in New Zealand and has two children Valentine G and Sarah.
