St Oswald's Church School, Knuzden - A tea party was held in the above school on Saturday last, after which Robert Lund, Esq., of Knuzden House, was called to the chair, and Mr Braithwaite, on behalf of the teachers and members of the congregation, presented to the Rev. Robert Slater Hart, the curate in charge of the district of Knuzden, who has lately been appointed to the vicarage of Colton, a very handsome candelabrum, as a token of their good feeling towards him, and of their appreciation of his services in the school and ministry amongst the poor. After referring at some length to the labours of the reverend gentleman in the parish, the loss the congregation would sustain by his leaving, and wishing that his labours would be abundantly blessed in is new parish, he concluded by reading the inscription on the candelabrum "Presented to the Rev. Robert Slater Hart, by the congregation of Knuzden Church School, 1866" The reverend gentleman, who was deeply moved, in acknowledging the presentation, said that he was entirely taken by surprise at receiving so handsome a token of their esteem for him. He should ever prize it highly as a memento of his connection with the parish and should value it as one of the most precious heirlooms he could hand down to his children. Unlike many testimonials, which were often "carefully put by" by its daily use he should be perpetually reminded of them. After ascribing whatever good had been done in the parish to God only, in whose hands he was but a humble instrument, he earnestly exhorted them to continue steadfast in the faith and prayed that God's blessing might ever rest upon them. Appropriate addresses were afterwards delivered by Messrs. O L Booth, M Nightingale, E Leech, P Hewarth, C Nuttall, and others. the choir, ably assisted by Messrs. Sheffield and Calvert, sang a selection of songs and glees during the evening. Amongst those present were Mrs R S Hart, Mrs Robert Lund and Miss Lund, of Knuzden House, Thomas Walmsley esq., of Stanhill House, etc. After and exceedingly pleasant evening, the proceedings terminated about half past ten by the singing of the Doxology.
